Then You Hide by Roxanne St. Claire

I was a little bit worried when I first started to read “Then You Hide” by Roxanne St. Claire. After all, I had just read her prior book “First You Hide” and absolutely loved it. And, I had a free weekend available with plenty of time to get absorbed in a good story. But was I setting my expectations too high? After all, when you have so much anticipation, it’s easy for your hopes to be dashed.

Well, no worries here. If anything, this series just gets better and better! “Then You Hide” features Vanessa Porter, a hotshot Wall Street executive and Wade Cordell, a former Marine-turned-security consultant. Wade is sent to find Vanessa and bring her to South Carolina to meet her birth mother. Vanessa, as it turns out, is in the Caribbean. But while everybody thinks she’s on her first vacation in years, she’s really searching for a missing friend.

When Vanessa and Wade finally meet, he asks her to visit her birth mother. Vanessa has no desire see the person who gave her up but makes a deal with Wade that she’ll go if they can find her friend. This deal sets the scene for lots of exciting action island-hopping to follow clues across the Caribbean, while allowing plenty of time for Vanessa and Wade to spend together!

Sometimes when I read different romances by the same author, it feels like I’m reading the same characters (same personality and traits), with only different names. No chance of that here! Vanessa and Wade are well-developed characters. They initially seem to be complete opposites. Vanessa loves the high-powered life, and is constantly on the go. Wade is a Southern gentleman, who despite his military background, has a secret sensitive side. Wade thinks Vanessa is too fast and pushy, while Vanessa doesn’t let anything stand in the way of her goal – including Wade. When these two finally get together, it’s fantastic.

This book is part of the Bullet Catcher series, but it works as a standalone. Still, I can’t wait for the next book – “Now You Die”. I can’t imagine that it’ll be better than this one, but it’ll certainly be a lot of fun finding out!

“Then You Hide” by Roxanne St. Claire has everything to make a thrilling and engrossing read. The great location (and descriptions of luscious resorts and private beaches) made me feel as if I was on vacation in paradise. The plot was filled with suspense, and kept me on the edge of my seat. The romance was hot, but believable. Overall, I highly recommend this book, and hope you enjoy it as much as I did!

  1. Kristina – Thanks for the props and great review! So glad you liked HIDE. Vanessa was a fun (if exhausting) heroine to write, and I’m holding my breath to see if she gets a warm response.

By the way, I just discovered this site a few weeks ago and really enjoy it. Was delighted to see my cover here today!
