Goddess of the Sea by P.C. Cast

“Goddess of the Sea” is my first foray into P.C. Cast’s ‘Goddess Summoning’ series about normal women transformed by their willingness to believe in the spark of the Feminine Devine that makes all women magical! But the series is not about witchcraft and crones and spells and such, rather it celebrates the female viewpoint and the joys to be found in the care of tending of beauty in whatever form it’s found, whether it’s nature, art, or humanity.

Review: Where There’s Fire by Maureen McKade

Where There's Fire by Maureen McKade

Another tortured hero served up for our delectation! “Where There’s Fire” is my first contemporary romantic suspense by Maureen McKade. I didn’t realize that I had recently read one of her historical romance novels until I was typing this review and my fingers remembered the name. Then, of course, I had to check out why and bingo! Now, I find myself comparing her writing styles and realizing that there are many similarities. Not so strange, I guess, but still. A serial arsonist turned murderer, a twisted pimp, a drug-addicted ‘ho, and in the middle of it all one female cop and one mysterious man.

My, my, my. Sexy highlanders in kilts! “Beware a Scot’s Revenge” is another winner in Sabrina Jeffries ‘School for Heiresses’ series. Ms Jeffries provides another enticing glimpse into the late Regency period in Scotland–with a braw and rowdy highland laird, a Scottish ‘princess’ who yearns to return to her beloved homeland, and a 16-year-old tragedy that almost derails true love!

It Happened One Night by Stephanie Laurens, Jacquie D’Alessandro, Mary Balogh, and Candice Hern

I defy any historical romance reader to pass up an anthology with a writer lineup of Stephanie Laurens, Mary Balogh, Jacquie D’Alessandro, and Candice Hern. I certainly couldn’t…and didn’t. When I asked Quentin to let me review this one, I figured I’d have to fight, bribe, or play dirty to get it. But apparently, my stars are in proper alignment or something because when I opened my latest box, there it was.

Review: Intimate Beings by Jessica Inclan

Intimate Beings by Jessica Inclan

The concept of one perfect ‘other’ for each person is a theme that has certainly been big lately. In most of the paranormal romances which are flooding the market these days, there’s a concept of a lifemate, other, mate, the ‘one’, etc and the paranormal creatures can smell, sniff, ‘know’, recognize, dream, etc that one individual meant for them. In Jessica Inclan’s latest, “Intimate Beings”, this theme is taken to a new and interesting level with the concept of a ‘twin’. A twin is your other half, and they have the nature and powers to ‘complete’ their respective twin. Do you think the huge popularity of paranormal romance novels these days is partially due to this true romantic dream of meeting the one true love that’s meant for you? Just something to think on.

Broken Pieces by Carla Cassidy

I have shivers running up and down my spine. I just finished “Broken Pieces” by Carla Cassidy and I really hope none of my stairs creak tonight or I’ll likely have a heart attack screaming my head off. If you like books that scare you and have you looking over your shoulder, this one will fit the bill.

The Pirate Lord by Sabrina Jeffries

Ahoy there! Sorry…I just finished “The Pirate Lord,” the re-release of the 1998 novel by Sabrina Jeffries, and I’m having a bit of a problem coming back to this reality. There’s just something about a man with a bandanna and an earring…and maybe a parrot…ooh, and a sword…a really, really, BIG sword! Ahem, excuse me. It’s that whole reality thing again. So anyway, hot pirates ahead (check out the new cover, mmmmmm, delicious). And lots of humor and witty dialogue too. (From Ms. Jeffries, not me.)

Review: Dark Highland Fire by Kendra Leigh Castle

Dark Highland Fire by Kendra Leigh Castle

Goddesses, dragons, werewolves, prophecies, magic…this series has all those things that make my heart go pitty-pat. “Dark Highland Fire” is the second book in Kendra Leigh Castle’s exciting tale of an alternate world where the balance has gone horribly wrong, and its connection to Earth. I read and loved her first book, “Call of the Highland Moon” which introduced a world just like ours where paranormal creatures run amok. Although it’s not necessary to read the first book to enjoy this story, I’m glad I did. This second book continues and expands Castle’s vision of both worlds which are exciting places I really enjoy visiting.

Promises Reveal by Sarah McCarty

Splendid! When I got the chance to review “Promises Reveal” from Sarah McCarty, I leapt at the opportunity. I think I even offered a bribe to Quentin, but I don’t remember (no, really Quentin, I don’t) what it was! In any event, whatever it was, it was SO worth it. I’m not a big fan of western romances, but I love her ‘Hell’s Eight’ series and couldn’t wait to see how this latest in her ‘Promises’ series translated into mainstream mass market paperback. Wonderfully, that’s how. This book is absolutely SMOKING hot and has interesting characters and plot lines to boot! (Get it, to ‘boot’?)

Review: Prey by Melina Morel

Prey by Melina Morel

My, my, my. How to describe “Prey” by Melina Morel? It’s NOT a romance, although there certainly is a smidge of animalistic, scratching, biting sex (well, it’s about shapeshifters!) included. It’s NOT just a mystery. It’s not just urban fantasy. It’s NOT horror. It’s a very interesting mix of all the above. But I would have to say is more of an urban fantasy suspense mystery. How’s that for a new category?
